UPPP Distinguished Fellows Program

The Distinguished Fellows program is the premier professional engagement program of the department of Urban Planning and Public Policy in the School of Social Ecology. Its purpose is to connect senior planning and policy leaders to graduate students. The Distinguished Fellows represent various political viewpoints and diverse social backgrounds, as well as a wide variety of interests, including: urban planning, housing, transportation, urban design, energy, environment, and community development. Each year a small group of distinguished leaders from various sectors are inducted into the program.

UPPP graduate students interact with the Distinguished Fellows throughout the duration of the program to engage in real-world learning within planning fields, and gain an opportunity to foster relationships with these professionals through a series of events.

Distinguished Fellows are invited to contribute their time and expertise through a variety of events, including:
  • Fall introductory mixer
  • Engagements events, including site visits and class lectures
  • Spring dinner banquet/panel discussion
Students are exposed to leaders and senior level managers from whom they can gain invaluable career guidance and also supplement practical elements of their academic course study. The formal program begins with a Fall quarter breakfast where the Distinguished Fellows, students, and faculty partners meet, and is capped by a dinner banquet held at the end of the academic year, which includes a moderated discussion featuring the year's Distinguished Fellows.
