Professional Engagement

The MURP program has relationships with a broad network of practicing planners at all levels and creates opportunities for students to learn from their expertise, through skills-based courses and workshops, guest lectures, career fairs, job shadowing, site visits, small-group discussions, and professional association conferences.

Many MURP happenings are included in the UPPP website's News and Events feeds.

UCI Division of Career Pathways

UCI's Division of Career Pathways (formerly UCI Career Center) provides a variety of career exploration, development, and skills-building resources specifically for graduate students, "to help you explore options, connect with opportunities, and succeed, whether you want to pursue an academic or non-academic career." You'll also find their schedule of workshops, such as Job Search Strategies, Resume Writing, and Interviewing Techniques, as well as information about one-to-one advising sessions with the graduate career counselors. Current students can utilize their Handshake system to view internship and job openings. Employers can use the Handshake system to post job and internship opportunties.

MURP Career Resources

The MURP Career Resources page is a collection of resources that our students have found helpful in researching planning career paths and specific opportunities that are available in the field.

Alumni Involvement

MURP alumni are accomplished and successful professionals, working in all areas of planning. They transform knowledge into action to improve neighborhoods, communities, and regions across the nation and throughout the world. MURP alumni are strongly motivated to support the next generation of planners, and consistently offer professional engagement opportunities for our students.

Meet Our Alumni

UCI Planning Alumni

UCI Planning Alumni (UPA) is a volunteer organization that seeks to create a supportive community among UCI alumni working in the planning field and UCI students exploring careers in planning. Formerly the MURP Alumni Council, the organization broadened its focus in fall 2018, and is now an official chapter of the UCI Alumni Association. UPA's Mentorship Program matches planning students with alumni planning practioners, to learn more about planning career options and build professional relationships.
